One of the most exciting moments of the Olympics is watching an athlete who grew up where you grew up.  Many of us follow our country’s athletes, cheer them on and even cry when they win.  Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a high school in Bethesda, Maryland is very proud of their very own Katie Ledecky for winning an Olympic gold medal in the freestyle swimming event.  Katie was born and grew up in Bethesda, MD just a few miles away from LADO schools.  According to usa.swimming.org, Katie’s mother swam in college for the University of New Mexico, and she was trained by Yuri Suguiyama at the Curl Burke Swim Club in Bethesda.  Katie not only won the gold medal, but also became an American record holder in the 800-meter freestyle.  If you know or grew up with anyone participating in the Olympics, and even winning medals, share your story with us!
